Gabourey Sidibe, also known as Gabby Sidibe, born on May 6, 1983, is an American actress who made her acting debut in the 2009 film Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire. Her performance in the film won her a nomination the Best Actress Academy Award on February 2, 2010. In Precious, Sidibe plays the title character, a physically and sexually abused sixteen-year old. The film has won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe Award and Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Award. The film received Academy Award nominations at the 82nd Academy Awards: for Best Picture, Best Actress (Sidibe), Best Supporting Actress (Mo'Nique), Best Director (Daniels), Best Adapted Screenplay (Fletcher), and Best Film Editing (Klotz).
